Kelly Beck-Byrnes

Writer, Art Director, Creative Director, Screenwriter.

When I was ten years-old I was the second fastest 100-meter backstroker in the world in my age group. From that point on, my life took a downward spiral as I swam only a few seconds faster over the course of the following ten years, achieving the longest known plateau in the history of swimming. The good news is I’ve been desperately trying to be number one at something ever since.

After graduating with a Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts and a two-year postgraduate degree from the Portfolio Center in Atlanta, I began my career at Fallon McElligott in Minneapolis where I joined forces with Duffy Design to launch FM2. Two years later I moved to the West Coast to tackle new creative challenges at agencies such as TBWA/Chiat/Day, Vitro Robertson, and Siltanen & Partners where I partnered as Co-Creative Director with Rob Siltanen to help launch the agency.

I take on freelance projects that include both writing and art directing. Recent endeavors include projects from Arts & Letters where I worked on Google an MSNBC, The Martin Agency, (Oreo, Nespresso), Leo Burnett (Samsung and cereal galore), and CP+B (Jell-O, Sprint, Fruit of The Loom). See a full list of the accounts I’ve worked on.

At Strawberry Frog, NY, I worked as Creative Director to oversee teams in Amsterdam and New York on Malibu Rum and Jockey. I was also CD at Crispin Porter + Bugusky on Food Lion.

My projects typically entail brand launch platform thinking as well as 360-degree conceptualizing across all mediums and consumer touchpoints. I’ve also freelanced at many other agencies including  72 & Sunny (Target), Wieden+Kennedy (Facebook, Starbucks), Goodby Silverstein & Partners (Hyundai), and 180˚ Los Angeles (a George Clooney short film). Other agencies include JWT, BBDO, RPA, and Deutsch, to name a few.

Though nothing will ever compare to the fleeting success I once achieved as a child, I’ve managed to collect a few awards in advertising including The One Show (sliver pencils), Communication arts, The Art Director’s club, Cannes finalist, the London International Advertising Awards, the Los Angeles Belding Bowl & finalist and Graphis.

In my spare time, I enjoy signing and sharing animal rights petitions as well as screenwriting. In fact, a couple of my scripts have won and placed high in some of the top screenwriting contests in the world, which won me a literary agent and manager in Hollywood. Since penning my first feature script I’ve written two pilots and a second feature, which was given a soft pass by Jennifer Lawrence’s ex-agent – a rejection I’ll proudly take to my grave! Check out
